Artisan Award Entry #10: Vintage Bird and flower

This is the last of the 10 entries for this year Artisan Award!  I saved my favorite for the end!  I bought a wooden brid shape at a local craftstore and I basically covered it with Designer Series paper, ribbon, lace and flower trim.  A little sponging, folding, embossing and cutting and here’s my bird! (Well, sounds like super simple but it took a little time to make it right!!!)  Both sides were finished symmetrically. I also made a flower with the creped filter paper that I sprayed with a mixture of Island Indigo and Rubbing alcohol. Do you like it? What do you think? Leave me some comments!!!

Artisan Award Entry #9: Epic Day Card

Welcome to Day 9 of my Artisan Award Entries!  This is the last card that I submitted to the Artisan Award Contest.  This card is not really my “typical” style, but I wanted to capture the essence of the new “Epic Day This and That” suite. It had just came out in April, so I wanted to use brand new products in my projects.  This suite includes Designer Series Paper, Washi tape, Designer stickers, cute clips and even a journal. (Check it p.129 in the 2013-2014 Catalogue and Idea Book.)

Epic Day card

There’s a lot going on on this page! In the background,, I used the Honeycomb embossing folder and I cut matching hexagons out of the Designer Series paper (yes by hand!). I also added a piece of torn DSP to add more visual interest!   I used a greeting from Word Play that I heat embossed half with Tempting Turquoise and half with Tango Tangerine embossing powders.  I added lots of little elements including rhinestones, printed brad, cute clips, small soda pop tops, Vintage button, Epic Day This and That Washi Tape and stickers.  My inspiration for this card was “Graffiti” art.

Artisan Award Entry #8: Together Scrapbook page

This is the third and final Scrapbook page that I submitted to the Artisan Award Contest last May.  I used My Digital Studio to create it, but I added real flowers made with Vanilla 1/2” Seam Binding Ribbon, pearls and thread.  I wanted  to create a real vintage and romantic look to match the picture (the picture was taken at my cousin’s wedding party). You can feel the love between them!!! I love that picture!

Artisan Award Entry #7: Chalkboard Card

Welcome to Day 7 of my Artisan Award entries!  This is the fourth card of the five I made and probably the simplest one.  I wanted to used the chalkboard technique since it was  so popular! For this technique, you heat embossed the image with White embossing powder and then use the White Craft ink and a sponge to make it look like a chalkboard.  The background is made with little strip of papers from Comfort Café and Patio Party Designer series paper, that I cut to about 1/2″ and perfectly aligned!  The stamp is from Vintage Verse (a Sale-a-bration set from last year.)  I added a little flower from the flower trim and leaves were cut with the Little Leaves Sizzlits die and sponged with Soft Suede.

My favorite part was actually the little bird inside the card.  I aligned the bird punch so that the printed paper pattern made his eye and beak. Do you like it?

Artisan Award Entry #5: Pop-up Pinwheel card

Welcome to Day 5!  Today’s card was probably the most complicated of the five cards I made for the Artisan Award Contest.  It’s a pop-up card or a 2-steps card.  I just made my own template (basically trial and error).  I wanted that the pinwheels stand-up when you open the card and that was a real challenge!  Some were falling down, so I ended up putting little paper brackets at the back so they couldn’t fall.  I wished I had taken some pictures from the side so you could see better how it’s made, but I guess I didn’t think about it… Since I don’t have the card anymore, it’s now too late. The challenge was that nothing sitck out the card when it’s closed.  (Seem kind of obvious, but when you fold the card, everything shift up, so it’s trickier than you think!)

I used the Sizzlit Pinwheel die (from last year mini-catalogue) and make 6 of them.  I used different buttons and brads to attach them in the center.   The super colorful Designer Paper ” Sunshine & Sprinkles” (now retired) inspired me this card.

Artisan Award Entry #4: Girl’s Apron and Give-Away Flower

Welcome to Day 4 of the Artisan Award Entries!  For this contest, you need to submit 10 projects (5 cards, 3 Scrapbook page and 2 3D items.)  Today’s one of my 3D item: a girl’s apron.  I used the Stampin’up Summer Smooches Designer Fabric (now retired) to make it.  This fabric came with three fabric designs and I used them all. I made my own pattern for the apron and I was really proud of myself!  I used the Bright Designer button and Real Red Stitched Grosgrain ribbon to add some embellishments!  I decided to make a little paper flower with the Summer Smooch Designer Series paper to put in the pocket! (That was a last minute idea!)
